a little reward for my new job

The first week in Denver went great. I had forgotten how tiring flying is, especially since my flight there leaves at 7, which means I get up at 4 a.m. The flight home is jam packed as well... so... but I enjoy my new co-workers and love that my hotel is right by the mall. I walked into the mall, and Anthropologie, PB Kids, Williams Sonoma, Restoration Hardware and Crate and Barrel are all on the same corner. It is like a little beam of light shown down on my head and I could here angels singing...

Anyway... It will be a busy (holiday) weekend for me. All my lights came in so the kitchen will be a construction site. Steven snagged a gorgeous 1936 Detroit Jewel gas stove off Craigslist for us. Really, the design is more modern than I thought. Stoves that old usually have those long spindle legs and the tower on the right. This one is so cute, and in perfect shape. It will live in the basement until we can redo the entire kitchen, including cabinets.

As a little reward for myself, besides a couple pieces of bling from Nordstroms, I ordered this chair for the bedroom from Overstock:

I can't wait to rock the baby to sleep and read stories to the boys. I plan to put it, space permitting, in front of the window, in front of the built-ins. So pretty. A little more "mod" than I usually go for, but the clean lines drew me in.

Congrats Sara- the job sounds tiring. What exactly are you now doing? I bet it is hard to be away from the boys for that long but as you said - this way hubby can finish school then you can stay home while he brings home the bacon :)
question on the wood for the ceiling- are you doing a bead board ceiling ? If so where did you find the wood?
And what lights did you end up getting?

To answer your questions...

This is a temporary solution to our kitchen ceiling. The real ceiling is actually another 18 inches up. Some, uh, genius decided to make a new ceiling, suspended down with 2x2s. With drywall, 2 ceiling fans and 14 can lights. 14 can lights randomly placed around.

Someday we will rip all that out, do new cabinets, the whole deal. For now, I don't want 14 can lights.

For a (cheap) temporary fix, we are hanging paneling on the ceiling. Not 70s disco paneling, not quite anyway... but paneling that has 6" "planks" and not the random sized grooves. This will be primed, painted white, and then we are doing some faux beams, out of doubled 2x4s over the top of that.

I bought 2 ceiling fans in natural iron, a schoolhouse pendant and 3 industrial pendants. Which, when I get a chance, I will blog about later.

Steven took out half of the can lights yesterday and did some research, meaning put the digital camera up into the holes and take a lot of pictures, so we could see how the ceiling was assembled.

Oh I can't wait to see the stove now.

My blog has just been growing like a crazy weed and I haven't been able to get by for as many visits. I miss all my blog friends.
Come for a visit and see both of my new parties for the week. They are up every week and I hope you will participate.
